Dating My Husband

February is almost over and even though I feel like it sped by, I really enjoyed this month. I actually had four dates with my husband. Not bad for a month with four weekends, right?

I feel like a part of me came back to life this month. Normally, we’re both so focused on work and the kids that we rarely take time out for social activities together, but this month we did.

We enjoyed a dinner party with a group of friends from one of my networking groups. I always have a great time with these ladies, but it was even better to share the moment with our hubbies. I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. What makes this group special, beyond just being amazing women, is that we’re all entrepreneurs, so there is an unspoken “knowing” between us. We’re all creative pioneers in our respective fields, working to share our gifts with the world. We can go from sharing business tips with each other to laughing about our favorite reality TV moments — Oh, no she didn’t!

Another night, Ed and I went to dinner with some new friends at The Center Club in Baltimore. The food and service were excellent and we enjoyed learning a bit about the history of the club. More than that, I remembered how much I enjoy meeting new people and hearing their life stories. For a while now, I had been feeling so overwhelmed with work and family obligations that hanging out with new friends was at the very bottom of my checklist, but I really do get so much from the experience. Not just in learning new things, but I get this feeling like my heart expands just a bit more to let someone new in, even though I thought it was at capacity… that is pretty cool.

Will You Marry Me?

How Ed Proposed to Me on Valentine’s Day 2007.

Ed and I also went out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. It was at a Valentine’s dinner that Ed proposed to me, so the day is pretty special for us, besides being a major commercial holiday and excuse for pigging out on chocolates and champagne. Although, I feel like my “mommy badge” gives me a pass for chocolate, ice cream or champagne ANY day of the week — I’m just saying.

This past weekend, we had another double date with our good friends and neighbors. Feeling like singing that song: Make new friends and keep the old, one is silver and the other’s gold. Please tell me someone else remembers that song?

So anyway, these would be our “gold” friends and we ate at a new restaurant in town called The Prime Rib. Excellent food and service, except dessert left me a bit disappointed. I ordered the Cup Cake Duet and the cake was dry. The frosting was tasty, but the cake was dry and I LIVE for a moist cake. Meanwhile, I just took it as a sign that I had enough sweets for the month anyway. The restaurant is at the new casino in Arundel Mills called Maryland Live!, so we also played a few slot machines after dinner… still here, didn’t win.

I’m so grateful to my darling sister and brother-in-law who took on the lion’s share of babysitting duties this month so that Ed and I could frolic about town. It was an exceptional month, I’m looking forward to more dates with my husband and now I’ve discovered more items to add to my vision board — yup, still working on it!

Hope February has been good to you. Shout out and let me know what you did this month?

Resolving to Evolve

The month of December is a blur. It started with my husband’s birthday, sprinkle in holiday shopping and decorations, Christmas celebrations, my best friend’s wedding, my birthday and Happy New Year!

So as I mentioned before, my goal for 2013 is to get clear on what I want in my life. No more focusing on what I don’t want. This is the year I evolve.

Allow me to start with the number one thing that I am very clear about wanting in my life. The people I am most excited about running toward— my beautiful family!

Shara and Ed

My husband is my rock, my partner, my best friend and confidant.

He makes me laugh ALL the time, even when I don’t want to! His calm demeanor is the perfect balance to my… well, let’s just call it passion. I value our different opinions and approaches; together we are a stronger team. As in any relationship, communication is important. Sometimes, it is hard to make the time to communicate about our unified vision for the family, but when we do I find we are renewed and recommitted to making it all come together.

Then of course my two children, I love those little people!

My Kids

My son is an amazing, 10-year-old comedian in training. He loves learning and telling new jokes, which keeps me in stitches. He is also a gifted reader and enjoys spending time playing basketball with his dad. He is a fantastic big brother to his 3-year-old sister, and while he runs low on patience some days, he admits, “Raising a baby isn’t at all like what I thought it would be.”

Amen to that brother!

She is our prima ballerina, the belle of the ball, and the life of the party. She loves dancing and helping mommy… with anything: cooking, cleaning, laundry, drawing, writing, taping, you name it! She’s our little helper.

So, the first piece of clarity about what I want in my life was actually very easy and the first photos on my new vision board for 2013 will be of my family.
